Energy Saving Trust’s Home Analytics offering allows businesses to get smarter in their efforts to engage with the most suitable households for their products or services. The service minimises wasted resource on other property identification methods, ensures that the householder receives a relevant and tailored service, and enables businesses to clearly map out intervention strategies and growth plans.
Energy efficiency in homes and businesses is rising up the agenda. But in uncertain times, faced with budget constraints, the need for a visible return on investment is more important than ever. This is where precisely targeting your products and services to the most suitable audiences can help your organisation.
A unique property dataset
Home Analytics is a unique domestic property dataset. Created by Energy Saving Trust over a number of years it incorporates data from EPC records, Ordinance Survey, Home Energy Efficiency Database (HEED) and more. The resulting dataset predicts energy efficiency and property characteristics for every single home in Great Britain.
The service provides accurate predictions of individual home characteristics - around 90 different property variables per address, ranging from wall type and insulation status right through to suitability for renewables and the distance of the property to the gas grid. Home Analytics’ unique formulas allow us to model each of the 90 variables to the highest degree of accuracy possible for each individual household.
The software also gives Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) ratings; the government approved system for assessing the energy rating for homes, as well as predictions of SAP score increases when certain energy efficiency measures are installed.
Formulas and predictive modelling inform the dataset, giving a much higher level of accuracy than random targeting methods. For example, only 45% of homes in GB have an EPC record. Home Analytics takes everything it knows about homes within the 45% of current EPC records and overlays that information onto the same type of homes without an EPC, to give the best SAP score prediction possible.
Originally designed to assist local authorities and housing associations tackle fuel poverty, Home Analytics is now also used across multiple commercial sectors. It pinpoints the homes that are most suitable for the various energy saving products or services on offer in the energy market to residents of varying household types.
We align our data to the objectives of the business we are working with, such as helping to identify homes eligible for support under ECO 3 or finding the homes that need interventions to alleviate fuel poverty.
Home Analytics in practice
Energy Saving Trust has worked with local authorities such as Devon County Council and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council on regional objectives, using the power of Home Analytics to identify homes that need their support. We understand that budgets are tight. We know they need to maximise positive effects within communities, while minimising wasted resources and ineffective interventions.
Energy Saving Trust has also worked with nationwide installers and manufacturers, energy suppliers and distribution network operators to help their consumers save energy and boost ROI.
Like the energy market itself, Energy Saving Trust can be fluid and flexible in the way that we use Home Analytics to help our clients achieve their objectives. We start by understanding each client’s requirements, to allow us to tailor our data strategy accordingly.
There are clear advantages to more fully understanding the housing stock in your region and demographic, and we work with businesses to achieve this knowledge in the shortest time possible, so Home Analytics can create benefits for individuals in the community and the organisations seeking to support them.
